My workshop ‘journey’ has been an interesting one. It started, as many of these journeys do, in my father’s garage. It then migrated to a small improvised and detachable bench in a flat in Acton, West London, when I was servicing and restoring flutes.
Then, in the mid 80s, following a meeting with someone on a guitar making course who was destined to become a lifelong friend, we moved into a workshop together in Acton Business Centre in North Acton, London, NW10. For a while I continued to service flutes, but it was that time of life when various school friends were off getting married, so wedding presents were on the agenda!
Being in a small workshop shared with a restorer, space was at a premium and therefore making small items was an expedient option …
