Acton Scott Estate:
We are privileged to live on the ancient Acton Scott Estate situated in the South Shropshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, halfway between The Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge.
The estate has been round a long time – it’s listed as Actune in the 1086 Domesday Book. At the centre of the estate is Acton Scott Hall – a grade 2 listed Elizabethan mansion dating from 1580.
For those attending a course who want to add a bit of luxury and historical interest to their visit, Acton Scott Hall has some rooms that can be rented.
Some have done this, it’s a wonderful house and you wouldn’t be disappointed.
Close by the hall is the ‘Home Farm’ – well known as the ‘Acton Scott Historic Working Farm’ which featured in the BBC Two series ‘Victorian Farm’ shown in 2009. This has been closed recently due to Covid and other factors, but has been partially open this year, 2024, as a result of a huge amount of hard work by the Acton family.
It is now known as ‘Acton Scott Heritage Farm’ and there’s much more to tell – better told on their own website here where you will also get all the latest news.
My workshops are situated in 2 converted C18th barns at the south end of the 1500 acre estate – much more info on that on the workshops page.
